French defense group Safran said it will invest more than 280 million euros ($332.4 million) in a new manufacturing facility in Morocco to build airplane landing gear.

The manufacturing facility will be developed at Casablanca airport in the North African kingdom, and will support an increase in production of plane maker Airbus's A320 model, Safran said Friday.

The Casablanca landing-gear plant is slated to begin operation in 2029 and will be powered by renewably sourced electricity, the company said.

"This new site will strengthen our resilience, agility, and competitiveness, allowing us to meet our customers' expectations--notably Airbus--and to prepare for the future generation of aircraft," the company's chief executive, Olivier Andries, said.
