Preliminary orders for heavy-duty trucks (Class 8) in North America reached 30,800 units in January, down from 42,700 units the previous month, but 20 percent higher year-over-year, according to fresh data from ACT Research.

In December, the increase was 16 percent, according to previous figures.

“After a weak October and November, several factors have, in our view, helped stimulate recent order activity,” said Carter Vieth, analyst at ACT Research, adding:

“The U.S. economy continues to outperform expectations, clarity around EPA '27 boosted demand, and perhaps most importantly, since the end of November we've seen a sustained uptick in spot prices following three consecutive snowstorms in the Midwest.”

Among others, Volvo and Traton sell heavy-duty trucks on the North American market.
