MTN Group reported higher third-quarter revenue and profitability, after growth in Nigeria, Ghana and other international operations offset declines at its South Africa business.
The South African telecommunications group said Monday that third-quarter revenue was 56.86 billion South African rand ($3.33 billion) before accounting for hyperinflation. This compares with 44.77 billion rand for the same period last year.
Service revenue--a closely watched metric for the industry--climbed to 54.84 billion rand from 42.43 billion rand.
The company reported an earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization margin before one-off items of 46% for the quarter, up from 37.5% for the year-earlier period.
MTN Group said it continues to focus on turning around the prepaid segment of its South Africa business, while seeking to sustain momentum at its Nigeria and Ghana units. The company said MTN Nigeria resumed dividend payments.
