The rally across major European indices is holding firm as the final trading day of the week draws to a close, fueled by optimism regarding a potential peace settlement between Iran and the United States.

The broad European Stoxx 600 index was up 1.44 percent to 630.47 at 4:23 p.m. Throughout the session, the index has traded within a range of 0.56 percent at its lowest and 1.98 percent at its peak.

On a sectoral basis, banks are leading the advance with a 3.66 percent gain, while basic resources follow closely as the second-best performer, up 3.64 percent.

The energy sector has seen the weakest performance, declining 1.18 percent, while food and beverage recorded the second-softest growth, up 0.20 percent.

Danske Bank CEO Carsten Egeriis states that the bank may once again consider acquisitions after nearly a decade without major deals, according to an interview with Bloomberg News. Egeriis specifically highlighted Sweden as an attractive market. The stock rose 2.7 percent.

Nokia's operating profit in 2028 could exceed the company's own forecasts by more than 50 percent, according to JP Morgan, which raised its price target for the stock to €18 from €12. The bank estimates that market projections do not yet account for new revenue from AI and cloud operations, or the increased profitability that higher revenues could generate. The stock climbed 9.1 percent.

Banking giant Barclays has entered into an agreement to acquire the youth-focused banking platform GoHenry from U.S.-based Acorns. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter, pending regulatory approvals. The acquisition is projected to reduce the bank's Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio by approximately 0.05 percentage points but will not impact financial targets for 2026 or 2028. The stock increased 4.6 percent.

Pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, GSK, announced that momelotinib has been granted orphan drug designation by both the U.S. FDA and the European EMA for the treatment of VEXAS syndrome, a rare and life-threatening blood and inflammatory disorder for which there are currently no approved treatments. The stock rose 0.8 percent.
