A strategic pivot toward direct sales

By integrating Kuala Lumpur-based BIZ MEDIC, Lumibird Medical marks the future creation of Lumibird Medical Southeast Asia. This new hub will allow the group to transition from a third-party distribution model to a direct subsidiary presence. This structural shift is accompanied by geographical streamlining: the centralization of operations in Kuala Lumpur will lead to the closure of the sales office in Thailand and the subsidiary in India.

Targeting a market with high clinical demand

Southeast Asia represents a major demographic opportunity for Lumibird, as the region exhibits some of the highest rates of myopia, glaucoma, and retinal diseases in the world. Jean-Marc Gendre, CEO of the Medical division, emphasized: "Southeast Asia is not just a growth market; it is the most populous region with the most significant needs in ophthalmology."

Toward a unified brand

The future hub's mission will be to organize the distribution of products from the Quantel Medical, Optotek Medical, and Ellex brands. This strategy aims to provide direct clinical support to local hospitals and surgeons while simplifying the management of regional regulatory requirements.

A period of strategic review for the group

While Lumibird Medical accelerates its international expansion, the Lumibird Group specifies that it continues to explore the potential sale of its medical division. The outcome of this strategic review remains, to date, uncertain.

The completion of the BIZ MEDIC acquisition is expected in the coming months, subject to local regulatory approvals.
