(Alliance News) : Leonardo Spa announced Friday that its performance within the 2025 European Defence Fund resulted in "particularly significant outcomes." According to a group statement, 15 projects were selected out of 18 proposals submitted, comprising 11 capability development initiatives and four research projects, for a total of €64m in funding.

The EDF 2025 cycle featured 33 calls for proposals with a total budget of approximately €1.0bn. From 410 submissions, the European Commission selected 57 projects involving 634 entities across 26 European countries, plus Norway and Ukraine. The selection placed a strong emphasis on inclusivity and the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises, which represent 38% of the participants.

Among its submissions, Leonardo presented ASIMOV (Autonomous System for Inspection, Maintenance, defence Operations and manoeuVres) and ANEMOS (Airborne New European MIDS Operational Solution).

ASIMOV is "a capability development program focused on in-orbit operations and services for European defense, confirming Leonardo's leading role in the Space domain." Meanwhile, ANEMOS is "a research initiative aimed at expanding European capabilities in information superiority and interoperability through new radio communication solutions and advanced waveforms."

The funding is allocated as follows: €51m for development and €13m for research. "The group's subsidiaries also strengthened the overall contribution across the 15 projects in which Leonardo is involved, bringing the total share of funding obtained by the group to approximately €84m," the statement noted.

Leonardo shares were trading up 0.1% at €53.75 per share.
