Qatar's Minister of Energy, Saad Al-Kaabi, speaking at the Doha Economic Forum, highlighted the importance of preparing for the future of energy by anticipating increased demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) after 2030. Faced with forecasts of excess supply in the short term, he argued that global economic growth would justify new phases of expansion in the LNG sector.
Qatar, which is already in the process of increasing its production from 77 to 142 million tonnes, plans to strengthen its leading position in the field in collaboration with international partners, including ExxonMobil in the United States.
The Minister is slightly optimistic about the future of LNG, despite the imminent arrival of numerous projects that could saturate the market. He is convinced that the supply-demand balance will be restored and that the gas sector will need to develop further in the 2030s. He also notes a shift in global energy policies, citing the recent G7 recognition of the need to increase LNG supplies, marking a break with previous positions against fossil fuels.
