(Alliance News) - Italgas Spa announced Monday that it has completed the connection of an Asja Energy biomethane plant to its distribution network in Druento, in the province of Turin. The facility produces biomethane through the anaerobic digestion of agri-food production waste, agricultural biomass, and livestock effluent.

The infrastructure will allow for the injection of approximately 1.5 million cubic meters of biomethane per year into the grid, equivalent to the average annual consumption of up to 4,000 local households.

The project required the installation of a new network section spanning approximately 1,200 meters.

With the activation of the Druento site, the number of biomethane production plants connected to the Italgas network has risen to 15. According to the company statement, the group aims to reach an injection capacity of 1.2 billion cubic meters per year by 2031, reaffirming the role of its infrastructure in the decarbonization of the country's energy system.

Italgas shares were up 0.2% at EUR10.36 per share.
