BENGALURU, Jan 16 (Reuters) - India's equity benchmarks opened higher on Friday, driven by Infosys after the IT major posted strong quarterly earnings and raised its full-year revenue growth outlook.
The Nifty 50 rose 0.12% to 25,696.05, while the Sensex added 0.35% to 83,670.79, as of 9:15 a.m. IST.
Infosys rose 4.5%, powering IT index 2% higher.
The country's No. 2 software services exporter unexpectedly raised its revenue forecast to 3%-3.5% from 2%-3% and signalled a healthy demand outlook, citing steady discretionary tech spend and renewed momentum in its core financial services business.
Nine of the 16 major sectors logged gains at the open. The broader small-caps and mid-caps rose 0.1% and 0.2%, respectively.
