May 13 (Reuters) - Consumer electronics maker Crompton Greaves reported a fourth-quarter loss on Wednesday, as a one-time hit of 7.16 billion rupees ($74.81 million) outweighed continued overall sales across segments.
o Consolidated net loss stood at 5.34 billion rupees for the March quarter, from a profit of 1.7 billion rupees a year ago
o The company recorded an impairment charge of 7.16 billion rupees on its investment in its Butterfly kitchen appliances brand, which it bought in 2023
o Crompton Greaves has been spending heavily to turn the unit around, which makes items such as blenders, induction tops and cookers, by pumping money into marketing and improving distribution
o Revenue from the kitchen appliances unit grew 15.5% in the quarter
o Overall revenue grew about 11% to 22.83 billion rupees, helped by a 9.5% growth in the electric consumer durables segment, which accounts for more than three-fourths of its total revenue
o India's consumer durables and electricals industry is entering a challenging summer season as rising raw material and energy costs squeeze margins, prompting firms to raise prices, analysts say
o Appliance makers in India such as AC maker Voltas and consumer electronics maker Havells India are battling higher metal prices, prompting some of them to raise prices to protect their bottomline
