Budimex, the Polish subsidiary of Ferrovial, announced today the opening of the largest railway junction in the country, the Warsow West station, following almost five years of comprehensive modernization. Located in the western part of Warsaw, the station serves up to 60,000 passengers and accommodates nearly 1,000 trains daily.
As part of Poland's National Railways Program, the reconstruction project involved demolishing the former station and building a new one. The new station features a large entrance hall in the northern area, nine surface-level platforms, and an underground access corridor leading to the tracks, which also functions as a shopping arcade.
The new track system spans over 35 kilometers and includes 137 turnouts along with hundreds of railway traffic control elements, such as 191 signals and nearly 580 information displays. The total platform area covers approximately 35,000 square meters and is connected to the passenger walkway by elevators and escalators, making it easier for travelers to navigate.
Next to the platforms is a new station building featuring a spacious main hall and a modern commercial corridor filled with shops and restaurants. A significant aspect of the modernization is Level -1, an underground passageway that is 63 meters wide. Designed with sustainability in mind, the station is equipped with a photovoltaic installation covering over 8,000 square meters, enabling the facility to generate approximately 30% of its own electricity needs.
On average, 600 people and 160 pieces of equipment worked daily to modernize this station-a multifunctional transport and service hub and one of the most technologically advanced in the region.
