Following a technical failure involving a Boeing Dreamliner at Frankfurt Airport, investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident. Specialists from the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) were on-site Friday to assess the incident, which left several people injured. 'We are investigating, and there are no results yet,' a BFU spokesperson said. An interim report is expected in about eight weeks, with the final report due in approximately one year. The affected Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 was defueled and hoisted overnight, according to the German carrier. 'After being lifted, the landing gear was deployed, and the aircraft was towed on its own wheels to the maintenance area.' The aircraft is slated for repair once the investigation is complete.

The accident occurred at midday Thursday at Frankfurt Airport, resulting in several injuries. The aircraft was being prepared for flight LH450 to Los Angeles when, at 12:45 p.m., the nose landing gear unexpectedly collapsed at the parking position, Lufthansa reported. No passengers were on board at the time, only crew members and ground staff. Several people sustained minor injuries; two Lufthansa cabin crew members and additional personnel from service providers were taken to a hospital for medical treatment. A total of 13 Lufthansa crew members were present. The two Lufthansa employees were discharged from the clinic on Thursday evening.

The fuel-efficient 787 is a relatively new addition to the Lufthansa fleet. The group is using the model to gradually replace older jets. The aircraft involved in the accident was delivered by Boeing to Lufthansa in January and has been in service since February.
