FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - The Dax is expected to open with modest gains this Ascension Thursday as holiday trading begins. Approximately two hours before the Xetra open, broker IG pegged the German benchmark index 0.3 percent higher at 24,220 points. This would place it nearly back at the previous day's high, bringing the 100-day moving average at 24,279 points into focus.
At the start of US President Donald Trump's visit to China, both sides sought to foster a more stable relationship between the superpowers with pointedly friendly rhetoric. Following a reception with military honors, Trump explicitly praised Chinese President Xi Jinping. In turn, the host in Beijing stated his conviction that the shared interests between the US and China outweigh their differences./ag/jha/
