The Canadian dollar strengthened against the greenback on Friday, and the yield on benchmark government debt slipped. 

The loonie was trading 0.2% higher at C$1.3664 to the greenback, or 73.19 U.S. cents, after trading in a range of 1.3664 to 1.3714.

Canadian government 10-year bond yields fell 2.2 basis points to 3.463%. The yield on similar U.S. government benchmark debt fell to 4.3096%.

U.S. June crude futures fell $1.45 to settle at $94.4 a barrel on Friday.

Canadian retail sales fell 0.7% in March from February. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected retail sales growth of 0.9%.Excluding autos, retail sales fell 0.5% in March, Statistics Canada said.  Analysts had forecast March sales, excluding autos, to be up 0.8%.
