Barclays PLC named Werner Schlossmacher as chief operating officer for its Private Bank operations in Asia, with the role based in Singapore. He will report to Leo Müller, the COO for Barclays Private Bank & Wealth Management. Schlossmacher has more than 30 years of experience in wealth management, working across Singapore, Hong Kong, and Switzerland.
Before joining Barclays, he was at UBS where he led digital transformation projects for the wealth management business. His responsibilities included overhauling mobile and electronic banking platforms and introducing generative AI tools aimed at improving experiences for clients and advisors. Earlier, Schlossmacher held various senior positions at Credit Suisse nearly two decades.
His work focused on digital platforms, front-office applications, and wealth management in the Asia-Pacific region. In his new post, Schlossmacher will oversee operational activity for Barclays Private Bank in Asia. He will be involved in developing digital initiatives, reinforcing operational frameworks, and preparing for the launch of the bank's upcoming booking centre in Singapore.
This appointment follows leadership change at Barclays in Japan. In December last year, Hiroshi Minoura was named chairman of investment banking at Barclays Securities Japan, where he is responsible for guiding the firm's investment banking efforts in the country.
