MILAN, June 7 (Reuters) - Banco BPM said on Sunday its board had unanimously approved expressing interest in opening talks with Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) over a potential combination between the two lenders.
The proposed deal would be structured as a merger of equals and could lead to the creation of Italy's second-largest bank.
